BFI and Film4 Announce ‘Future Takes’ initiative

The BFI and Film4 have joined forces on Future Takes; a funding initiative to support the creation of innovative, ambitious short-form works as a stepping stone towards a first feature or long-form commission.

The funding will support teams to make scripted live-action work or hybrid documentaries involving scripted or dramatized elements up to 25 minutes in length. The fund aims to support projects that command a higher budget; namely films that would not be realisable without this support.

The BFI and Film4 aim to support around 7 short films, with funding of up to £90,000 per film. The BFI will also contribute National Lottery funding as a grant to each selected project, and Film4’s funding will in part purchase a license for certain distribution and broadcast rights.

Access support is available for applicants interested in applying. See Access support for BFI funding applicants.

The application opens on 15 December 2022 and closes on 13 February 2023.

You can read more about the application, guidelines, and eligibility requirements via the BFI website.
