Bella! where the hell have you been, loca?

A Note From the Founder

Welcome to a new and improved ALL FRUITS RIPE. Following an involuntary two-year hiatus, we are back! For 2023, we are looking to partner with media outlets, programmers, festivals, host spaces and critics for our annual programme. If you’d like to work with us, you can check out our FAQ and ‘partner with us’ page for further details.

If memory serves, we last met in 2020 at Soho House Berlin; our third programme event in celebration of US Black History and LGBTQ history month. We screened a brilliant selection of short films by Esther Kondo Heller, Chantal Adams, Marcel Bourgeois & Thomias Radin, and Carlo Felice Audrines followed by an insightful discussion with the filmmakers themselves. Little did we know this would be our last event for a while.

In a matter of months, the world had spun counterclockwise on its axis; a global pandemic, numerous lockdowns, and the closure of many beloved cinema and screening spaces worldwide. While AFR could have continued online, we felt it best to take a step back and reconfigure our goals for the future — consider what an equitable, accessible, and caring AFR might look like.

We still believe in the power of film and recognise the uncredited labour that goes into making a production. Not only do we support that labour but we also believe in championing those that have historically been marginalised within the film industry. Our aim is to not only highlight silenced voices and narratives but provide opportunities for filmmakers, screenwriters and producers to create, share and distribute their work. We strive towards open-source knowledge exchange within and outside of traditional academia and stress the importance of communal, cooperative, and affordable civic spaces.

AFR remains committed to operating in a nomadic fashion; our events take internationally in galleries, cinemas, art studios, town halls, living rooms and the outdoors; to name a few. We are also exploring an online members programme for those unable to attend events IRL. Similarly, we are working towards making our site user-friendly. Please bear with us as we make gradual updates.

We are looking forward to what 2023 will bring and seeing your work shine.

Take care of yourselves and we’ll see you soon.
